For years, we’ve rolled up our sleeves and delivered some of the industry’s most complex high-voltage infrastructure as engineers, project managers, and technical experts working across every stage of a project. Along the way, we’ve learned so much about what this industry already does well. We also noticed where a dose of excited curiosity could make it even better.
That’s not a criticism. Some of the best people we know work in this space, and they deliver complex, safety-critical projects reliably, year after year. But we felt there was room for something a little different. A way forward that keeps everything that works well, but adds a bit more energy, ingenuity, and imagination into the mix.
We call that Yova.
What’s in a name?
Every part of it means something. ‘Yo’ draws from the Japanese word for essential, a nod to a culture built on precision, technology, and an unshakeable standard of quality. ‘V’ and ‘A’ are Volts and Amps, the units that power this entire industry.
Essential expertise, grounded in fundamentals. That’s the idea, and now it’s on us to bring that energy every single day.
Same expertise, with a new question
Nothing about our experience has changed. The people behind Yova are the same engineers, project managers, and problem-solvers who’ve spent decades delivering complex high-voltage projects safely, on programme, and on budget. That’s not up for debate, and it never will be.
What has changed, though, is the question we ask ourselves before we start. It’s emphatically not “how has this always been done,” but instead “is there a better way, and have we checked?” Most of the time, the answer might still be no. Sometimes it won’t be. But no matter what, we think that question is worth the ask, every time.
Why, how, and what?
Every brand needs a reason to exist. Ours is: if there’s a better way of doing something, why wouldn’t you at least find out?
That’s our “why.” And our “how” is by combining deep technical expertise with a willingness to think beyond our own piece of a project, and seeing how it serves the whole. The “what” is not as sexy, but non-negotiable: high-voltage construction, delivered safely, on programme, and on budget. But who are we kidding? That’s the definition of “sexy” to us.
What you can expect from us
Safety and compliance are never up for debate, whoever we’re collaborating with. Beyond that, we hold ourselves to six things:
Zest: Energy and character in how we work, because powerful interactions are worth remembering.
Boldness: Decisions made without the fear of failure, and no settling for “the way it’s always been done”.
Curiosity: A constant search for a better way, and no interest in keeping what we learn to ourselves.
Empathy: Awareness of the knock-on effect of every decision, and the judgment to act accordingly.
Diligence: The highest safety standards and the most precise technical work, without exception.
Joy: Work that matters doesn’t have to be dull.
Six words… They’re easy to write down. Living up to them, project after project, is the real job. But it’s what gets us out of bed every morning.
The grid needs this, right now
It’s not as if we’re not making this change in a vacuum. The demands on the electricity grid have been intense, and the pressure to deliver a greener, more efficient network is in our faces. An industry under that much pressure needs more than just capacity, right? It really needs people willing to ask better questions about how that capacity gets built.
That’s the space we want to make a difference in.
This is just the start
A new name is easy. Living up to it is the harder part, and not something we can do on our own.
